Out of the mouths of Boys.... beware!!

I have a 4.5 y/o son. It's never EVER a dull moment with him around. Lol

Our before bed routine is always the same: dinner, a bath a little family time then bed. I was not mentally prepared for what took place during bath earlier this week.

I've blogged about properly addressing body parts a while back. It's welcomed for him to address his penis as his penis.. Here goes..

I'm washing my son's body and he says to me, " Mommy, these look like marshmallows in my penis". I was taken aback just a tad bit, so I encouraged him to further explain. I asked, "Son what looks like marshmallows"?  He responded, " these" (his testicles). "Oh". That's all I could muster as a response.

I had to walk out of the bathroom for a minute to gather my thoughts. Ok, marshmallows was a great way to describe his testicles but how do I start the conversation about testicles? Will it lead to him asking where babies come from? Gosh, this can't be it!! But in actuality it is.

Sometimes I want to breakdown because I beat myself up about raising him alone but as I find strength and allow the wonderful guys who make up our village to spend time with him, I'm reassured that we're ok( his Godfathers do not take the place of his father BUT their presence and involvement is definitely welcomed and he so loves them. Especially the "Godfather" who gives him all the cool stuff and let's him rule the world along side him).

My Lovies, parenthood has its ups and downs. Some days are good and some are bad. The key is, never let it get you down. Do what you can and allow your children to grow with you, experience good and bad with you as well. I'm extremely blessed to have all of these amazing people in our lives. Where I lack, they step in and pull the extra weight.

My son asked for marshmallows lastnight, I chuckled.. Oh son!! The things boys say...

It's in the Water

Last weekend, my little people and I spent some much needed time at a few beaches in Florida. It was so refreshing and relaxing...

So here goes. Anyone who knows my son #boychild, knows he has an extreme fear of the pool. It's so bad that I had to purchase a kiddie pool for our back yard because he's afraid of the pool in our complex.

When we arrived at our hotel Friday, he made it clear that he knows his fear and he was not getting in the pool. We were able to get him to get in but it was a struggle. He had goggles, a ring and arm floaties but he still chose to stay on the steps.

Saturday after spending time at our reunion, we went over to Destin Beach. I was a bit apprehensive because I knew he probably wouldn't go far. So much for me thinking!! When I tell you this little boy stayed in the water.. Lol

It was a struggle to get him out. He kept saying, "Mommy I love the beach". It made my entire heart smile. As parents, we try our best to protect our children but there comes a time where we have to just sit back and watch. I watched in absolute amazement at my son enjoying the water.

My loves, I challenge you to release your fears. You have the power within to overcome anything. You'll never know until you try. Try a new meal, skydive, kiss someone new. Just get out and do it. We cannot let our fears hold us hostage. It's not worth it.

Now that I know my son likes the beach vs the pool, I guess we'll have to have more trips to the beach. Anyone willing to put us up for the weekend? Lol
I Kid.. Make your Friday GREAT~

SuperCross Experience 2015

Wow!!! I didn't know what to expect. After fighting thru tons of construction and retrieving our tickets from Will Call, my son, contest winners and myself were headed into the biggest dirt bike show ever. I kept asking my son and the two little boys with us were they excited? They all kept jumping around saying, "Yes".

We finally made it to our seats and when I tell you the Dome was filled with people of all ages! Men, Women, Children, Middle-Aged, they were every where.

We sat there and watched numerous races, jumps, tricks and fast bikes every where. The Dome was transformed into an actual dirt race with tractors to fix the surface and mounds for the bikers.

So much excitement on a Saturday evening. Definitely an experience my son and I will definitely remember. We didn't stay until the very end( as my son was becoming restless, he's 3) but the few hours spent were definitely worth it!!

Monster Energy SuperCross 2015, we conquered that!!

Pottying 1 on 1

It's been Hell but we've made progress! Yes, Potty training boychild.

There's been good days and bad. Some days where I feel he has it and some days where I've been tempted to get diapers and call it a day. I mean, I potty trained girlchild in less than 2 weeks but this lil joker; I've been drained.

And the worst part has been the fact that I've successfully helped other parents but couldn't do it for my own child.
I was talking to a former client and she said, " Neka you're making it comfortable for him by letting him have a pull op at night"... Ouch! I had to hear it I guess. So I finished out those last 4 pull ups and he has not wore one in going on 3 weeks.

Wow! It's been that long. My heart smiles. I knew it was time, it was just a matter of reassuring him that he's a big boy and sometimes big boys make mistakes. He has not wet the bed since our transition. And while he has not mastered going "stinky", I'll take him saying, "Ahmee I potty", and we make a mad dash to the restroom.

My little boychild is becoming a big boy. And I'm ok with letting go. It's such a different transition with my son than with my daughter. But as we grow together, I'm anticipating all that's in store.

Parenting isn't the easiest but these small wins, I'll take them Any Day!!

If I Were a Boy..

If I were a boy I'd tell them,
Don't make me famous through the innocence of my life being snatched away,
But know me for the son I am, the brother, grandson, uncle, cousin, friend, student I AM~

Know me for my accomplishments in school
Judge me based off my character not the clothes I wear..
Entertain my thoughts by starting a conversation,
Follow me because I'm going somewhere in life, not because I'm going down the street to commit a crime.

If you must have conversations about ME and make my name trending,
Let it be because I Love Jesus and my Life..
I Love cheese doodles and beef hotdogs, I like skittles and Arizona ice Tea
I enjoy playing lacrosse and I can rebuild a mean car engine..

I'm a Boy, your neighbor, even your son's best friend but you will never know because you have Silenced ME~~

So,
On his behalf I speak!
I am HIS mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend!
I know 1st hand of the boy that lives within.

He's more than the Black little boy who looks suspicious to you.
He's LOVED, CARED for and Appreciated.

He's more than the tag you put on his toe after you've realized you've made a MISTAKE in taking him from us.

I stand and Speak..
But, MY voice isn't the one you need to hear.
You need to listen to him, the voice of
the little Black Boy~

I'm a Mother to a handsome little black boy, I'm an Aunt and cousin too. It's such a sad day when we have to speak on their behalf because their voices have been silenced.

Enough is enough.. America is the land and home of the free but YET we struggle with equality and being judged based off what we wear!

Father God, open their eyes and help us all see when the lights go off we're ALL the same...
